Ikat and Tunic Tops for Women

An unexplored region and craft of Chhattisgarh is Saraipali and Tie and dye weaving respectively. Saraipali is situated in Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh. There are many weaving cluster in region,having expertise in tie and dye( ikat) weaving. Weavers over here have less exposure to the market.

Their main marketing hub is near by Bargad city of Odisha. As weavers are not getting enough order in ikat weaving especially in tunic tops for women, slowly they are migrating toward other livelihood option or plain cotton weaving. The fantastic skill of tie and dye weaving is getting shattered due to lack of order.

We have seeing the ikat craft of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha but hardly heard of Chhattisgarh with same craft. Weavers community here need support, guidance in terms of designs and marketing to promote their work

We have collaborated with a cooperative in Saraipali for some design development. Here is the out come of the same.
